The first episode of our second season features biophysicist Dr. Rachel Lance and her study of the cause of the loss of the crew of the Confederate submarine HL Hunley.
"In The Waves" goes in-depth into her research and quest to scientifically back up her hypotheses about death under the sea over 160 years ago.
Season 2 Episode 2: "The Captain's Last Voyage"
Civil War author and historian Scott Mingus, SR visited with the men of the mess and shared the story of the Lincoln Funeral Train from his 2022 book "A Carnival of Grief: The Lincoln Funeral Train In Pennsylvania", detailing the journey of the 16th President from Washington, DC to his home in Springfield, IL following his 1865 assassination.
Episode 3 of our second season brings us in contact with a dear friend to the Mess through our work with our living history unit, the 5th Indiana Light Artillery. Jim Lewis serves as the Interpretation, Education and Cultural Resources Program Manager at Stone's River National Battlefield, where we were fortunate to be part of the annual artillery demonstration programs for decades.
Jim is known as the essential resource for Civil War history in northwestern Tennessee, and we wanted to give him a chance to share with the listeners about the battle, the battlefield, the national cemetery, and also the most recent work on the Stone's River battle "Force of A Cyclone", by Caroline Ann Davis and Bob Dunkerly.
